English business abbreviations and acronyms in Ukrainian intercultural communication

Abstract

The article examines English business abbreviations and acronyms as a productive word-formation phenomenon and an essential component of contemporary business discourse. It outlines their typology, distinguishing between graphic and lexical shortenings, as well as between initial abbreviations and acronyms based on their formation and pronunciation. Particular attention is paid to the strategies of translating and adapting such units into Ukrainian, including transliteration, calquing, and explication, with regard to genre, audience, and professional norms.
