From Deficit to Crisis? Rethinking Trump’s Tariff Tactics

Abstract

The research examines the valid reasons behind the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, which, contrary to official statements, aim not to protect domestic production but to reduce the U.S. trade deficit. The work analyzes the deeper economic mechanisms of this policy, emphasizing that public justification does not always reflect the actual motives. Particular attention is given to the potential global consequences, including the risk of an economic crisis, as well as to alternative approaches to assessing the situation, particularly the position of Stephen Miran.
